Within the early care and learning profession, most of our education and training focuses on what we, as educators, do (the what and the how). It doesn’t touch on who we are and why we are educators.

In this Community of Practice, we want to give educators a chance to explore the interconnectedness between personal identities and their practice; you cannot separate pedagogy from personhood.  By doing this exploration, we hope to give you a stronger image of yourself, not just as an educator, but also as a person in our community.

Over the course of the five sessions, we hope to build confidence and empower you to have a strong pedagogical backbone that aligns with your true self and your lived experiences, while also challenging our biases and prejudices.  Too often, we may feel that we must conform and fold to other people’s feelings, thoughts, and values to have a place in our field. We want to build professional capacity by inspiring each other to grow and learn, leaving with a better sense of ourselves, understanding of our generational role, and the tools to build community!

This initiative is supported through the Canada-British Columbia Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) Agreement between the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia, in partnership with the Westcoast Child Care Resource Centre (WCCRC), the agency responsible for administering the funds.
