Bubble Fun!

Summer has definitely arrived and we can now look forward to many fun filled days of outdoor play. As early care and learning professionals we spend countless hours trying to find new and exciting activities to fill those long summer days. Bubbles are a great way to have some fun outdoors and are easy to grab when you need to add some excitement to a lazy summer afternoon. The recipe below makes for some “tough” bubbles that won’t pop when they hit the ground. You can also check out our Pinterest page (Bubble Fun board) for more bubble play ideas.

You will need
1 package unflavored gelatin
1 cup just-boiled water
1 1/2 to 2 ounces glycerin (available in the skin care aisle or at a health food store)

Another great bubble recipe
2 cups Dawn dishwashing soap
6 cups warm water
3/4 cup corn syrup
Mix well and let settle for at least 4 hours. To extend the life of the mix store in the fridge in a closed container. Allow the mix to get to room temperature before using.
Tips for success:
– Be careful to not stir the bubble wands in the mix as you don’t want the bubbles to foam up. If foam does develop skim it off using a piece of cardboard.
– For the best bubbles, wave the wands slowly.
Bubble Wands
Many items around your home can be used to make bubbles – strawberry baskets, plastic yogurt lids with the centres cut out, plastic pop can holders, pipe cleaners, funnels, straws, etc.
