This presentation is designed for child care providers, early childhood educators and community service providers who provide support to children with FASD in a variety of child care programs and other community settings. It contains a general overview of the cause, primary and secondary characteristics, and possible advantage of early diagnosis and intervention. The workshop will provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of FASD, and the key role of educators in addressing challenging behaviours associated with FASD in a positive and nurturing way. We will also discuss the importance of the social context of FASD, family dynamics, and our own attitudes and values in respect to supporting biological parents and individuals dealing with this condition.
