In-person workshop: Understanding Behaviour Issues Based on an Attachment Lens
Date: June 12
Time: 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Presenter: Dr. Minnie Mossop

Studies have confirmed that developing secure attachment relationships is critical for the healthy development of young children, including those in group or family child care settings. However, the relationships between early childhood educators and children differ from those between parents and children, so applying attachment theory in group or family child care settings can be challenging.

This workshop will guide early childhood educators to understand their crucial roles in developing attachment relationships while discussing different kinds of attachment types and starting discussions on strategies for developing attachment relationships with children. Moreover, early childhood educators will have opportunities to connect common misbehaviours with different attachment styles to increase opportunities to apply attachment theory when working with young children.

We will be driving the CCRR Van; you can’t miss us! To borrow, we’ll need you to complete our short parent library subscription form.

Promoting Preschoolers’ Social-Emotional Development Through Peer Interaction
In-person workshop
June 8 from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Preschool provides a unique environment for children to learn and grow. Social and emotional development is especially enhanced through peer interactions. Through activities such as playing, imitating, problem-solving, and collaborating with each other, children gain the skills necessary to build relationships and develop their social understanding. These skills are essential for a successful transition into kindergarten and life beyond school. Nonetheless, some preschoolers have difficulty engaging in social situations with their peers or making friends. For those children, it is important to provide support and guidance from teachers, parents, or other caregivers in order to help them develop the necessary social and emotional skills. With the right support, children can learn to interact with their peers in meaningful ways and gain the social and emotional development that will last throughout their lives.

In this workshop, we will learn to scaffold young children’s peer interactions to help them build the necessary social-emotional skills such as sharing, perspective-taking, entering play, and caring for each other.
