The South Asian Early Childhood Development Task Group:
is a volunteer group of dedicated individuals and organizations passionate about enhancing support and resources for South Asian children age 0-6 and their families in our community.
The "Early Years" (prenatal to age 6) are extremely important! The kind of nurturing and attention that children receive in the early years of development, from birth to age six, has a major impact on the rest of their lives. Researchers have found that parents and caregivers are very important, and
we want to help you provide the best support and opportunities possible for your children.
Children don't raise themselves, it takes a community to raise a child, and together we CAN make a difference!
"It Takes a Community to Raise a
Child" is a calendar for the South Asian community to understand the importance of Early Childhood Development. There is a belief in the South Asian community that children will raise themselves, as long as they are provided food, shelter, clothing and basic supervision. This is not true, as research shows that children require a lot of time, support and attention from their parents and caregivers. Therefore, this calendar was designed to help parents with helpful tips and information about raising young children.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact the staff at any of the resources listed in the calendar for help. We encourage Surrey parents to pick up the phone and call whenever they need information, services, and support for themselves and their children. Be sure to visit the various centres, check out their pamphlets and speak with the helpful and knowledgeable staff. Please don't be shy - it is their job and desire to help the families of Surrey! And remember "it takes a whole community to raise a child" so let's all do our part together!
