The prevailing practice is to take what works with older children and to apply them to the younger set. Dr. Neufeld reveals the pitfalls of this strategy, especially regarding such common methods as warnings, consequences and time-outs. According to Neufeld, our methods must be informed by how young brains work and by what is required for healthy development to occur. Dr. Neufeld will provide alternative strategies that are both effective and developmentally safe with young children.

Discipline and Young Children Flyer Library Subscription Fee Increase
Effective July 1, 2011, library subscription fees will be as follows:
- Licensed Family Child Care and registered License-Not-Required family child care providers - no cost;
- Students in recognized local ECE programs - $50.00 annually;
- All other qualifying subscribers - $60.00 annually.

Child Care Provider Appreciation Evening
In honour of May as Child Care Month and to recognize all the hardwork and commitment that child care providers give to children and families we held our annual Child Care Provider Appreciation evening on Tuesday, May 3.
Everyone had a wonderful evening of food, networking and pampering! Some of the pampering included mini manicures, hennas, threading, bra fittings, hand treatments, back scans and naturopathic consultations. And everyone went home with two goodie bags filled with great items!

Family Child Care Drop-in Sessions
We are currently offering drop-in sessions for family child care providers. These drop-in sessions are provided in the communities of Ladner and Newton. These sessions give you the opportunity to network with other caregivers; the children in your care can interact with other children their age and play with educational puzzles and toys. We will supply arts, crafts, story time and snacks.
The Delta drop-ins will be held on the last Monday of the month at Pebble Hill Elementary School, #246 - 52A Street, Ladner from 9:30-11:00 am.
The Newton drop-ins will be held on the first Wednesday and the third Friday of the month at the Early Years Centre, 6878 King George Highway, Surrey from 9:30-11:00 am.
