How is yoga different for early learners? In this series of workshops, you will learn how to create introspective learning spaces that foster peace and relationships. Integrate movement inspired by yoga and mindfulness throughout your day to support self-regulation and ease, from the inside out. Taken as a complete series, each workshop will build upon the previous and include resource creation and practice teaching so you can begin bringing yoga and mindfulness to your students immediately. Fill your toolbox with skills for stress reduction and resilience, for both students and teachers alike.

Note: Participants need to bring a yoga mat and water bottle.

Yoga for the Preschool Classroom Series

How is contemplative practice different for early learners? In this series of workshops, you will learn how to create introspective learning spaces that foster peace. Integrate movement inspired by yoga and mindfulness throughout your day to support self-regulation and ease, from the inside out. Fill your tool box with skills for stress reduction and resilience, for both students and teachers alike.

Week 1: Fundamentals of Mindful Movement
Inspired by the ancient traditions of yoga & mindfulness, this workshop explores developmentally appropriate contemplative practice for young children. You will learn how to teach postures, incorporate breath work and introduce meditation through sensory and active play.

Week 2: Yoga-Inspired Movement for Circle Time
How do you incorporate mindful movement to large group gatherings in physically and emotionally safe ways? Learn how to build a movement sequence through stories, songs and games that promote moments of activity, balanced with moments of stillness. Create your own resources that you can begin using in your classrooms immediately.

Week 3: Navigating Challenges through Yoga & Mindfulness
It is with the belief that all behaviour is communication, that we approach the notion of ‘challenges’. In this workshop, participants will understand approaches based in attachment theory, emotional literacy and self-regulation. Leave with practical tools using movement and mindfulness to bring a sense of ease to your daily routines.

Week 4: Yoga and Mindfulness in Nature
Time in nature can offer the sense of wonder that is the basis for contemplative practice. Incorporate movement that is inspired by yoga and mindfulness to your outdoor routine. Learn ways to share moments of stillness with the young people in your lives. Leave with mindfulness based activities that promote a sense of reverence for the greater world around us

Presenter: Josephine Chan
Josephine holds a Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Care and Education, and is a Registered Yoga Teacher. Her mission is to provide tools for the life-long well-being and resilience of children and adults, everywhere.
