- Parent Workshop
March 16, 2020
6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
It is absolutely okay for children to feel any feeling they want however it is not okay for a child to be hurtful, harmful, disruptive or destructive as a way to express those feelings. This can be very difficult to teach and guide a child through because of so many mixed messages, beliefs and methods out there that are not clear or purposeful but rather habitual which have become the ‘norm’. This workshop will help differentiate between feeling a feeling and expressing a feeling in a way that is appropriate and kind. We will also dive deep into knowing EXACTLY how to set them up for success for the next time they may feel the same feelings.
This workshop is designed for parents who want to increase their skills in knowing how to best respond to their child who has caused hurt or harm to themselves, another person or the environment that teaches the child appropriate ways to express their feelings. It will include a framework on how to recognize the key elements to create a ‘plan of action’ and know how to respond and reinforce the good behaviour and correct any negative behaviour that may come up.
This will be an interactive discussion that includes opportunities for questions, situational examples, take home tools to use towards a future action plan at home as well as moments of reflection to connect head and heart to the core of this matter.
